Jupiter in Cancer

On May 1st a new series of highest-ever-definition pictures came back from NASA's Juno Spacecraft of Jupiter and its Moons. This is timely for the planet of knowledge and growth going into its exaltation sign of Cancer from June 1st to October 31st 2026. A continuation of Jupiter’s initial entry into Cancer from mid-October to early December 2025, opportunities from that time now repeat and are developed. You’ve had a taste of Jupiter’s potential in its exaltation sign, and now know which areas of life to support and focus on most. A 12-year highpoint for Jupiter’s affairs of protection and expansion sees its planetary promise manifest according to your spiritual belief and spontaneous good instincts. Wherever in your chart it is moving, you can expect freedom and a measure of good fortune, as your horizons enlarge and sympathetic people surround you. You have big goals, where a teacher, law-giver, or authority figure may make a decisive difference, and a course of education is an investment in yourself. Jupiter moves at high speed through the whole of Cancer in this transit, no retrograde motion, and it is as well to seize any openings as they arrive.

Initially as part of its long stay in Punarvasu, Jupiter in Pada Four of this nakshatra is vargottama in Cancer navamsha, where its impact should be strong and stable. Your worldly efforts are in tune with your spiritual and relationship motivation, and spontaneous good fortune may come to find you. Jupiter then moves into auspicious Pushya on June 18th up to August 18th, where its focus is on knowledge and spiritual advancement. Jupiter in Ashlesha is a different proposition, where you take a tougher and more worldly attitude, and perhaps take steps to protect and consolidate your gains.
From July 16th to August 17th 2026, Jupiter moves alongside its planetary friend, the Sun, which gives you confidence and personal charisma, even though July 24th to August 1st sees Jupiter being obscured in the Sun’s bright glare. A goal which appeared too ambitious or far away comes within reach, but be mindful of getting too preoccupied with a particular person or outcome.
From September 18th to October 31st Jupiter conjoins its friend Mars in Cancer, which lifts Mars’s level in its debilitation sign, and gives you confidence and a pushier, more belligerent style. You have a competitive edge, may travel or study on an impulse, and a combination of confidence and assertiveness makes a real-world difference. Enjoy physical energy and spiritual courage, though it’s as well to remain focused and not to chase your goals wildly and to no great purpose. A philosophical argument may also arise, and you should be mindful of a potential clash with a guru or mentor figure. Taken to extremes this sees a religious conflict, a red-flag for world affairs, even though Jupiter and Mars don’t meet exactly in Cancer – their direct planetary war comes during the pause in Leo, with explosive Ketu – but Mars’s moody style in this sign can easily upset the delicate balance between wisdom and impulsiveness. This conjunction also occurs during Jupiter's passage through the liminal Gandanta zone between fire and water signs, where its self-assurance is not so clear. Self-righteousness in fact is your enemy, and be careful also of over-expansion and a cavalier attitude that takes progress and promotion for granted. Excess and indulgence in food and drink may also create problems, though any generous gesture should return to you redoubled.
After dipping into Leo on November 1st, Jupiter goes retrograde on December 13th and returns into Cancer on January 24th 2027. In retrograde motion through Cancer, several of the opportunities that flashed by in the initial five-month period should come around for consolidation, until Jupiter goes direct on April 13th for the last phase of this transit up to June 25th 2027. It can take time to adjust to new opportunity, and you may only decide on a course of action in this later phase, after options for review have come and gone.
Amid all the hype, Jupiter is the inevitable focus of exaggerated and unrealistic expectations. A conjunction from Jupiter to one of your natal planets often involves a compromise, if not an outright battle for control, and it may also expand the wrong thing. Bloating and waste are also symptoms of an inauspicious Jupiter, where its energy is not expressed easily. Even in its best sign, it’s advisable to look into the individual case and see where Jupiter sits in your chart and how it likely performs in the real world. Check transit from Moon as well as ascendant/lagna, and prepare for upheaval while Jupiter’s restorative power does its work.
