Eclipse Season Summer 2026

Eclipse Season is upon us, as the Sun and Moon cross the nodal axis in Leo and Aquarius, bringing their customary pair of eclipses two weeks apart, first on August 12^th and then 28^th. A New or Full Moon within 18° of Rahu and Ketu creates a partial or total eclipse, the nearer the orb, the greater obscuration. These two August eclipses refer back to the February and March 2026 eclipse season, with the sign placements now reversed, creating a complementary impact in events and inner experience. The larger Saros Cycle also goes back through the entire present nodal orbit of eighteen and a half years, so any eclipse now is not occurring in isolation (nothing does).

Solar Eclipse August 12th, London, 18:36pm BST

Rahu and Ketu moving retrograde near the start of Aquarius and Leo, switch back to Cancer and Capricorn on December 5^th. The nodes’ symbolism is bound up with their role in eclipses, and their power to swallow up the Sun and Moon traditionally speaks to the fate of nations and the rise and fall of kings. Big deal stuff. Some astrologers claim eclipses’ impact is overstated, but larger picture, eclipses and their visible path on earth create a climate and underlying picture over a period of years. The twin Solar Eclipses whose paths criss-crossed the United States in October 2023 and April 2024 are recent examples, which prepared the ground for Donald Trump’s second term and the extreme polarization that has followed. The present Solar Eclipse line running through Spain highlights their issue with Morrocco and the enclave of Ceuta. 

The Solar Eclipse in Cancer, August 12th is in effect a turbocharged New Moon, where the Sun’s light is completely obscured by the Moon’s disk, and emotion comes symbolically in front of ego and self-expression. It creates an intense and all-embracing atmosphere, where a small personal issue can make you momentarily anxious and overwhelmed. Appreciate that you and others easily become possessive or irrational at this moment, and leave your real intentions exposed. Falling in Ashlesha, the ‘serpent nakshatra’ associated with security and protection, this eclipse draws you into a well of feeling, and your mood plays a big part in your decision-making. Ashlesha is also linked to material wisdom, where you have sharp insight into people’s motivations and know how to conduct business in the real world. An obstacle may be removed after a period of work and focus, with fate having a big say, in the sense of a change coming no matter how hard you have tried to avoid it. Try to accept this kind of event if things go against your will. This is a moment to shed a layer of attachment and free yourself of limiting beliefs and conditions, in your work and relationships.

Jupiter, planet of philosophy and good fortune, also sits close to the eclipse degree in Cancer and offers a measure of added protection. Your belief system and relationship with knowledge may go through a sudden change, or a guru figure has an important say. Your attitude to savings and long-term security may also have a transformation and you decide where you put your financial and emotional investment. This is not a recommended time for major decision-making, where it is usually best to wait a day or two until the waxing Moon reappears in the sky. Pay particular attention to any of your major natal planets falling within a degree of the eclipse points, and expect potentially sudden change in relation to its affairs.

This eclipse is visible primarily across Greenland, Iceland, and northern Spain, with a small portion of north-eastern Portugal. Other European cities get a good sight, with London and Paris getting 90%+ obscuration, and also visibility from Rome to Stockholm. The eclipse is faintly visible in the northeast USA, with Canada seeing approx 50%. There is about two-and-a-half minutes of complete darkness on the path of totality, revealing the Sun's corona. Partial visibility extends across most of Europe, North Africa, and areas of North America. Coverage in UK is highest in the southwest (ie, Cornwall at 95%).

LUNAR ECLIPSE AUGUST 28TH

The Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius-Shatabishta on August 28th is a near-total obscuration, where the Earth’s shadow blocks the light of the Sun on to the Full Moon. It is a moment to rediscover your emotional centre and psychic security, as a period of work and ambition culminates, and success gives you the desire to cut free and move on. This is the complementary eclipse to the Aquarius Solar Eclipse of February 17^th 2026, events and experiences from that time may arise again, with a more emotional tone, especially if you have a natal planet in this nakshatra. The focus is more how you feel about your ambitions than your status per se, as you examine what makes you inwardly content. The Moon sitting closely with shadowy Rahu can also obscure your inner needs and create a sense of dislocation and passing anxiety. Mercury, planet of the mind, sits close to the Sun at eclipse degree, as your powers of rationality are obscured, or you can channel this moment into finding an unusual answer or solution. A powerful personality who is close to you may also have an overbearing influence, where you don’t have complete freedom to express your thoughts.

Lunar Eclipse August 28th 2026, 05:18 BST

All eclipses are powerful moments for affirmation and intention-setting, which may mean reconciling a past effort that has not yet paid off. This a special opportunity for meditation above all, especially in otherworldly Shatabisha, as you become immersed in your yoga practice. Donation and charitable work are ways to honour and appease the eclipse energy, though be careful of long-distance travel and major decision-making for at least 24 hours either side of the day.

The Lunar eclipse is visible through the whole of the Earth's nighttime hemisphere, with particularl emphasis on the South America and the Eastern United States.
